Stainless Steel Letters

In practice, there is not one metal that is truely free of rust. Even gold (the most superb metal) oxidizes. Every metal reacts with its environment (oxygen in the air, wet fingers, salty sea air) and creates an oxide skin. The oxide skin of carbon steel is brown, the oxide skin of copper is green.

Stainless steel is an alloy the contains amongst others iron, chrome, nickel and manganese. This alloy has the characteristic that the oxide skin is not porous. Furthermore, the oxide skin of stainless steel metal is transparent.
